Any Human Being—college professors, waitresses, prisoners, nurses, fishermen, real people like you and me—keeps inside a unique personality.
Share incognito your thoughts, feelings, experience and dreams and you could become the model of a fictional character in a movie or a book. Incognito, not because you should feel like Mata Hari or "The Anonymous" but because we believe you'd feel more comfortable answering personal questions in privacy.
All you have to do is sign up with just a nickname and your email. Fill out your profile with some basic info such as gender, occupation, age and country of residence. Then you can answer as many interesting questions as you wish. That's how you show your true character, give the writers a teaser of your amazing personality and... gain new insights about yourself.
Whenever a writer gets inspired by your public answers, he or she may award you with a token which you can cash in right away and make some real money. A writer who'd awarded you can start a private question-answer session with you. If you answer all the questions allowed per token and the writer wants to ask you more, they will have to award you another token.
Or if you know interesting people, our referral system is right for you! Send them your referral link so they can use it to sign up and you'll get paid anytime they get awarded.
Creative Authors—(screenwriters, novelists, TV and film directors, playwrights)—need to bring their fictional characters to life.
If you want your character to look alive in your work, you should know how she dresses, what's in her pockets, what's her greatest fear, what kind of breakfast her granny used to make her 30 years ago... Even if you never put so detailed descriptions in your work, you still need to know everything about your hero, who in turn will organically lead you through the plot and enrich the dialogue.
Usually you get in touch with real people whose occupation, interests or lifestyle fit your characters. You have to meet cops, junkies, hookers... anybody. First you seek them out, then you persuade them to meet you, maybe you spend time and money travelling for the interview. Even worse—usually people wouldn't tell just like that their deepest personal secrets face to face.
It's much easier, cheaper and safer to use Characters Live. Your characters are here! You can browse their profiles and get inspired by the answers they gave to our questions. We're delighted to provide you with a network and tools to develop your own characters. For free!
Whenever you find a truly inspiring character, you can award them. Awarding a real character opens a session with a number of private questions you can ask them to further develop your fictional characters.

What are those questions meant for?
The answers you give to the public questions help you to reveal your true personality. A writer needs to know if the characters she's about to ask private questions (which brings you cash) are authentic, reliable and interesting. She's not going to waste her time on someone who has nothing to tell her about the character she's developing.
Ok, I'm a writer. Why do I need to answer a question before being able to view how others had answered it?
Because that's fair. If you're looking for honesty and sincerity, be honest and sincere. Besides, you could be a character as well.
How many questions should I answer?
As many as you wish. The more, the better. Remember, the more you tell about your true self, the more attractive you'd be to a writer and the chances of being awarded with real money will get higher. And it's not a waste of time—you can find some new insights about yourself.
Aren't those questions a little bit too personal?
Yes, that's the point—the fictional characters should think, breathe and live as real people. You shouldn't worry about that as you're incognito here and nobody will be aware of your identity.
I've got a specific question concerning characters developing which I'd like to offer to Characters Live members. Is that possible?
Yes, please contact us and if we find your question suitable, interesting and not a duplicate of an existing one, we'll add it to our list and will let you know.
Can I create a fake character and give plausible answers as if it's a real one?
The point is that you show your true self. Unless you're a genius of empathy, we doubt that you can fake a character that looks real. Short answer: no!
Give me a brief workflow on character development.
The platform leads you through the stages of development. First you provide your new fictional character with basic information such as name, occupation, short description, etc. Then you're asked to give your character a personality via a quick personality test.
The inspirational part comes with our Questionnaire. There you answer some personal questions on behalf of your character. You can use our existing members' answers as your character's ones. You can combine and edit as many existing answers as you wish. For free.
And the the cherry on top is that you can invent your own private questions and ask them our real members. As you will get them involved in your affairs using that feature and they'll have to work especially for you, you're required to award them first.
Can anyone but me access the characters I'm developing?
No. They belong to you only and only you can see them. Even when you ask our real members private questions, they are not allowed to see your characters.
What's that stuff?
If a writer finds a real character appealing and suitable to base her character on them, she can invite them to answer some of her specific questions. They are received it in the form of answer requests.
A private question-answer session between a writer and a real character could be opened only after the writer awards the real character she's inspired by. First the writer have to purchase tokens, then she can use them to award characters for the efforts they've already made. Awarded characters can cash in their awards to their PayPal account any time they possess available tokens.
How many personal questions am I allowed to ask?
If you reach the number of private questions per token and want to ask the same person more, you must award them again with another token.
What if a person I awarded doesn't answer my private questions?
Awarding a character means expressing gratitude for the inspiration they've aroused and recognition for the efforts they've already made.
As long as you award them for a work they've already done, technically and legally they cannot be obliged to give thorough answers to your private questions or to answer at all.
But it's in their interest to give good quality answers—the more they answer, the more they'll be awarded, the more money they'll make. And we believe it's more than just money they're after—helping writers out and becoming a hero in a movie or a book are quite strong motives alone.
How personal the private questions could become?
Very personal. The writer wants to know everything about his character. Including sexuality, childhood traumas, criminal activities, etc. Don't worry, the writer has no way of discovering your identity. Anyway, if he starts to abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate your rights, at any time you can block and report him.
How private the private questions are?
Each private question and answer is between two persons only: the writer who asks it and the real character who answers it.
What are Purchases, Tokens, Awarding, Cash in?
If you want to ask private questions while developing your fictional characters or just want to thank some of our members for the inspiration they gave you, you can award them with monetary prizes.
Purchases: In order to award a person, first you need to purchase tokens. You can choose to purchase one of several bundles—the more tokens you buy in a bundle, the cheaper each token will be. Information on the current bundle prices, number of private questions per token and the amount of money an awarded character can cash in per token is available here.
Awarding: Once you've purchased tokens you can award each of them to different real characters by clicking on the sign next to their profile info. Or if you ask someone a private question while developing your fictional character, you will be asked to award them in order to start a private Q&A session.
Cash in: If you've been awarded tokens, you can transfer the amount of money they've brought you to your PayPal account by cashing in. Make sure you enter a valid email address which you must had added to your PayPal account beforehand, so we'll be able to authorize PayPal to execute the transaction.

Either with or without PayPal account, you execute the transaction from PayPal's page and we have no access to your payment information.

What is a referral link?
A referral link includes a unique code which allows our system to track your user ID. You can get it from our referrals page and share it on your social media or send it over to friends who might be interested in Characters Live.
As soon as new members sign up using your referral link, they become your referred members. Whenever any of them gets awarded with a token, you get paid too.
How much can I make using referral links?
For each token awarded to a member referred by you, you make 0.5 USD. You can have unlimited number of referred members and each of them could get unlimited tokens. You do the math.
Is my referral money taken away from my friends' awards?
No, the members referred by you get the same amount per token as if they weren't using any referrals. You are paid on top of that.
How do I use my referral link?
Go to the referrals page or just click on the following icons whenever you see them at the site.
If you're eligible (see below), you can either share your referral link to Facebook and Twitter or you can copy it to your device's clipboard and paste it in emails, forums, instant messengers, etc.
Anyone who clicks on your link gets redirected to Characters Live along with your unique code. When they sign up at the site, they become your referred members and you're ready to get paid every time they get awarded.
Under what conditions can I get my referral link?
First, you need to be logged in, then your character level must be at least ②. You reach that level by giving interesting and sincere answers to a couple of our questions.
We've set up the minimum level condition in order to prevent Characters Live from flooding it with passive users who just want to make quick cash. Also, you better get familiar with the platform before starting to recommend it.
Can I keep track of my referred members?
At the referrals page you can see some statistics such as the number of the members referred by you, their activities and the money you've made with referrals. You don't have access to their individual profiles because we want to keep their incognito status intact. The same applies to them—your referral code cannot lead them to your profile.
How do I cash in my referrals money?
Go to the awards page and cash them into your PayPal account.
Why is there a minimum amount to cash in?
PayPal transaction fees have a fixed component. If the cash in amount is too small the taxes may exceed it. The minimum amount is just 2.0 USD. We'll keep it safe for you until your amount gets higher than that and you'll be able to cash it in.
What are Report question and Block member buttons for?
We don't need spam, scam, abusive, offensive or dumb answers. If you spot such answer, please report it. If our moderators consider the report reasonable, the answer will be deleted. If the answer's author shows a tendency of not respecting our members, he/she will be banned.
If you don't like the attitude of a member who's asking you private questions, you can block them. He or she will no longer be able to communicate with you.
Following? What does that mean?
If you find a character intriguing, you may follow them and thus keep track on their activity at Characters Live.
You can also follow a question which means any time it's been answered, you'll get a notification.
How can I be banned from Characters Live?
Easy. Just start systematically to spam, to write nonsense answers, to abuse, harass or stalk others.
